Finally, some "instant" gratification. I started this on Friday (2/20) and put about 14 hours into it. The subject is a photo I took in Great Britain's Lake District, near the town of Ambleside on the north end of Lake Windermere.
This is a culmination of a number of things I've learned on other paintings (like whitewashing the hill tops and distant trees to creat the misty feel of the morning), and the confidence to make some more interesting choices (e.g., the road is a blend, on the canvas, of titanium white, dioxazine purple and aquaquinone blue.)
I love the way this came out. As opposed to some other efforts (see Arctic sunset) I actually like the painting more than the photo. It actually echoes the feeling more for me.
