This was a pain in the butt and I'm still not thrilled with it. This painting represents the largest I've done to date and was the first time I painted on an easel. (A Christmas gift from my wife.)
The photo it's based on was taken from the "Postal Steamer" off the coast of Norway, just south of the Arctic circle in July, 1998. This was the first sunset I'd seen in in three days and I had to wait until almost midnight to get this picture. (Sunrise was less than an hour later.)
Lot's of (cobalt) blue, (carbon) black, (dioxazine) purple, (cadmium) red and (dyaralis) yellow. I think my stuggle is that I still like the photo better than the painting.
