The second in a series. Ana wants a butterfly and the best image I can find of a live butterfly is a monarch (Wikipedia). But she wants a pink and blue butterfly. So that’s what she gets. The two tone wings are Permanent rose with titanium white, with dioxazine purple shading on the upper wing; and anthraquinone blue, with a light blending of Cerulean Blue to indicate shape and highlights.
I really concentrated on the background and got a terrific result. I used very dark greens and used stiff bristle brush to blur the edges of leaves in the background. In the foreground I used much lighter greens and white highlights.
I learned how to use a stiff bristle brush to smooth out highlights and blur the background on this project.
