Bell Peppers

June 2008 - 8"x10", acrylic on canvas board

I found the image on the internet. I printed them as 8”x10” so I can use the transfer paper to do the outline. I don’t have the courage to try a real canvas yet, so I’m sticking with canvas board.

It takes about 4 hours to complete. I’m especially proud of the stems (probably because I was disappointed by my apple stem) and most disappointed in my shadows. I did the background as lavender, fading to near white under the vegetables. Again, it came out darker than I intended. Pthalo blue-green shade, with cad red, medium, does not make great lavender; and acrylics dry dark, and there’s the rub. It looks like a heavy sky. In any event the peppers look great. The perspective is better and I was bolder with the highlights. I’ll keep going.
